The Met Ball Gala 2014 : Red Carpet

In a year, are so many fashion extravaganzas to look forward to around the world. I always look forward to 2 star studded events in the United States – the Golden Globe Awards and the Met Gala. The Golden Globes starts off the movie awards season with a bang, while the Met Gala opens the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

The Met Gala has been going on since 1971 and every year, there is a new theme for the gala that goes with the annual fashion exhibit. For 2014 the Met celebrates Charles James, who is known as “America’s First Couturier”.

The name of 2014’s theme is Charles James: Beyond Fashion, which is fitting given that he looked at his fashion pieces as works of art. The design process behind his work was sculptural, scientific and mathematical – innovative tailoring that continue to influence designers today.

This is one of those posts where I just delve into my deep love for fashion. So don’t get bored! Also, be warned that there will be reed-thin figures hanging off a few gowns but it is the gown and not the figure that is my focus here. I’ll talk about Charles James in detail in another post..this is about the looks that I quite liked from last week’s gala.

Let’s get this started!
