This Is What The Real World and Virtual Society Does Not Want You To See : A Fat Body

*this post is a follow-up to the previous post, so if you’d like to understand the context of this post, read that post HERE*

The only way I felt I could move forward from this incident was to celebrate myself in the swimsuit worn for the article’s photoshoot. I kicked my sad butt out of the house, enjoyed taking these photos, as you can see for yourself

The Empress Bikini designed by GabiFresh for Swimsuits For All in size US 16

I cannot even begin to describe how vibrant and gorgeous this bikini is! It was love at first sight. The colours and prints are something out of a high fashion lookbook, Gabi has outdone herself this year.

While posing for the swimsuit was a delight, I certainly wanted to have a little more fun with this shoot.

So this is the kind of body that generates animosity. A body with cellulite, thick thighs, a large derriere and not-so-perfectly stacked breasts; because even when one appreciates a fuller figured woman she ‘should’ be rid of blemishes, physical imperfections and must adhere to what the male gaze considers attractive. A plus sized woman ‘should not’ show her cellulite or love handles, she should not display her flabby flappy arms, she should not show her double chin and if she is to be shown appreciation, the least she could be is pretty. Sorry not Sorry for the disappointment people.

Do not show your approval to a body like mine, say men and women, for this is a slothful gluttonous sight. Do not regard my body as one to be respected, fashionable, let alone beautiful.

Do not be happy as a plus sized person. How dare you mock my hours of gym workouts, running, diets and stand there in that grotesque form expecting to be applauded for celebrating your size? How dare you exist?

To which I reply – You know nothing about me or my friends to place yourself on a position of superiority and judge us. You have no inkling of what our life stories are. You do not deserve my consideration.

I AM A FAT BROWN WOMAN WHO KNOWS WHAT SHE IS.

I AM A PLUS SIZED BLOGGER WHO IS UNASHAMED OF MY BODY.

I AM A FULLER FIGURED WOMAN WHO WILL NEVER STOP ADVOCATING THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF ACCEPTANCE, DIVERSITY AND INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM.

I AM A WRITER WHO WILL SPEAK TRUTHS.

I AM A PERSON WHO UNDERSTANDS THE VALUE OF COMPASSION, HUMANITY AND SOLIDARITY.

I AM A BEING WHO SEEKS SOLACE, PEACE AND LOVE.

I AM A NURTURER, A WARRIOR AND A WISDOM SEEKER.

I AM UNDEFEATED. I AM A CHAMPION.

The lesson here my dear friends, is that in a world where bodies like mine are still regarded with blind hate and faux-concern..there is only one way to get through the muck. And that is to rise above it, create ripples of change and move forward.

Chat Soon my loves xx

  1. I have the green one piece and i love this suit because of the tribal prints. You wear it well love as always keep fighting and stay true to you. This summer suits are cute. Check out the plus site one one three. I got the marble swimsuit i always love one pieces that are high cut lol

  2. You are beautiful! The light in your heart shines through in your face and in your body. Fat-disgust is all too ingrained in people’s minds and they are oblivious to the real damage it causes to even their closest family and friends. I admire your unwavering vocal and visual advocacy for acceptance of everyone’s bodies.

In the last year I learned about a disorder I have called Lipedema (also spelled Lipoedema) that explains a lot about why my body has a lot of fat with specific characteristics. Information about Lipedema can be found at http://www.lipoedemaladies.com/#!video-of-dr-karen-herbst/cxl0
And here is a link to a woman’s personal story: http://sweetcatmagick.org/cats-blog.html
And another useful blog site: http://wellroundedmama.blogspot.com/2015/07/lipedema-part-4-possible-causes-and.html?m=1
There are now many more people with websites and blogs on the issues of Lipedemic fat bodies and fat-shaming.
Thank you for being you – a wonderfully zestful strong advocate for us big fat-bodied women in this world!

    1. Thank you so much Jenni đŸ™‚ I have a suspicion I might have Lipedema and will get it checked out. I know nothing much can be done but at least I’ll be aware. Thank you for the links!

  3. I am a 67 year old proud fat woman who has championed size diversity empowerment since 1973. I was also one of the first to design beautiful clothing for other proud fat women, and photos of me wearing a bikini I designed went around the world in press articles. I know about fat hatred and was showered with it for showing my proud self to the world. You are gorgeous, brave and powerful, dear girl, and please don’t let anyone make you think otherwise. You and your sisters around the world give me hope that what I have fought for all my life will continue to live in generations of women. Bless you.

    1. Bless your heart Karen, I am so honoured to hear from you! Thank you so very much for the solidarity. Would love to speak more with you about the size diversify empowerment you were a part of. Send me an email at ollievanter29@gmail.com
